check your tuning often, always be in tune

Use this diagram to make a quick check to be sure your guitar has all strings in tune.

The fattest string is the lowest note, an E,

       Hear the "E"

(Windows Media Audio.wma  format )

The fifth note on the E-string is an A.

  • Hold the E-string down at the fifth fret, pluck the string and compare to the open A-string. They should be the same. If not, tune the A-string until they are the same.

    Hear the "A"

  • Then tune the D-string to the fifth fret of the A-string,

    Hear the "D"

  • then tune the G-string to the fifth fret of the D-string;

    Hear the "G"

  • then, this one is different, tune the B-string to the fourth note on the G-string, not the fifth;

    Hear the "B"

  • and finally tune the high E-string to the fifth fret of the B-string.
  • Hear the high "E"
